----Kevin Matthews was faithful to his teen group. He was at every activity possible. He would practice giving the plan of salvation and often passed out tracks. Steadfast in his devotions and true to his convictions. Always looking for a chance to serve. He was a youth pastors dream.
----
But then came his senior year. He was as busy as he could possibly be. He was involved in Basketball, Soccer, School, Work and Church. At first he could handle it all without too much trouble but as time progressed it became obvious something would have to go.
----
First it was Teen Bible study which freed up his Monday nights but that wasn’t enough. So soon all extra church activities were eliminated. And Finally he decided Teen soul-winning would have to go. However he did decide to go one last time.
----
That night his youth pastor was his partner. They knocked on several doors with very few positive responses, and several negative ones.
----
But at the ninth house an older man opened the door. Kevin did the usual introduction and when he asked the man whether he knew where he would spend eternity the man said no. Kevin asked the old man if he wanted to see from the Bible how he could know that for sure (Kevin fully expected an excuse or a no thank you as he had often received at this point) but that’s not what he got. The older man invited them inside where he told them that his daughter had been trying to get him to go to church for years but he wouldn’t. However he had recently suffered a heart attack which made him think long and hard about eternity. His daughter was on vacation and he didn’t know who to call so he just prayed and asked God to send someone who could help him.
----
" And here you are." The man said smiling. Kevin was amazed by the story. He quickly prayed for wisdom and was thankful he still remembered what to say. He opened up his Bible and began to read the verses that he had read so many times but this time he read them differently. This time he really read them. When he finished the old man bowed his head and prayed and accepted Christ as his Saviour. When he finished praying his eyes shone with tears as he said, "THANK YOU so much for taking the time to come and tell an old man about Jesus. I am so glad you did."
----
Kevin only smiled that’s all he could do. This man was the first person Kevin had ever been able to lead to the Lord in person and it was a great feeling. They talked to the man a little longer and after making arrangements to pick him up for church that night they left.
----
" Are you glad you came today?" the youth pastor asked.
----
" Yes, Yes I am very glad I came. Mr. Whitefield, I am sorry I have been skipping out on Bible study and the other activities. I have missed coming to them and I see now that they are things that I should do no matter how busy I am. I am going to start coming to them again, even though I’ll probably have to give up something else." Kevin said.
----
" That’s great, Kevin. Its good to have you back " Mr. Whitefield replied with a smile as he and Kevin headed for the van.
----
Kevin did have to give something else up, he chose soccer. It was hard at first but every time he saw the old man come to church he knew he was doing the right thing. And over the many years that followed many people were reached both directly and indirectly by Kevin, and whenever he looked back on the decision he made( though at the time not easy or fun) he was filled with such peace and joy that he knew he had made the right call and he wouldn’t have changed it for anything.
** Isn’t the devil smart? He knows he will never get some of us to do really bad things so what does he do? He makes us too busy doing things that aren’t necessarily bad in fact they may be really good, but they aren’t what we need to be busy doing.
----
Ex. There is nothing wrong with spending time relaxing or being with family and friends. God gave our families to us and he wants us to spend time together. But when anything makes us too busy to serve God the way we should it really needs to be a careful consideration.
----
Now if it’s something that totally goes against God then it definitely needs to go. But if it is a good and necessary thing like family we should be sure to spend time with them but balance it out in a way so we can still serve God the way we should.
----
Being Busy isn’t bad as long as you aren’t too busy to serve God !
